OLHA MARIA

This is one of Tom's most beautiful songs. Originally composed for the sound track of the film "The Adventurers", the song was named after the picture's main female character, Amparo.
Later on, it received lyrics by Chico Buarque and Vinicius de Moraes, and the title was changed to Olha Maria.

Tom Jobim made two of the most important recordings of the song. The first one (still titled Amparo) is in the CD Stone Flower, with arrangement by Eumir Deodato. In the CD Terra Brasilis, Olha Maria was recorded with orquestra conducted by Claus Ogerman, who wrote also the arrangement.
Tom plays piano in both recordings.
